In 1863 William Johnson produced "The Oriental Races and Tribes - Residents and Visitors of Mumbai" which is one of the first ethnographic work to make use of photography. Johnson was a civil servant by training and established a studio in Mumbai's Grant Road. These Rare photographs provide valuable insight about the ethnic mix of Mumbai in those years.
